Let's Build It - How to Build the Arii Skull Head Ghost Box - Episode 3 - A Model Kit Build Video
Are you ready, Boils and Ghouls, to finish building your Arii 37001 Skull Head Ghost Box? Well today, kiddies, we will do just that! Today on the Monster Hobbies Monster Model Dungeon "Let's Build It", I will show you how to build the Arii Skull Head Ghost Box. This is episode 3 of our model kit build video. You will need the following tools for this project, as well as an Arii ghost box that you can find at http://www.monster-hobbies.ca in the Monster Models section. These are the tools: 400 - 800 Grade sandpaper on a rubber block, Citadel Liquid Greenstuff, an old toothbrush, a painter's tack rag, Paint brushes, Flat Black primer paint, a Philips Head screwdriver, a pair of pliers and the following Citadel (by The Games-Workshop) paints below: Wood Grain 1.) Rhinox Hide - Base Coat Paint 2.) Agrax Earthshade - Shade Paint 3.) Doombull Brown - Layer Paint 4.) Tuskgor Fur - Layer Paint 5.) Terminatus Stone - Dry Paint Steel Bands 1.) Leadbealcher - Base Coat Paint 2.) Nuln Oil - Shade Paint 3.) Ironbreaker - Layer Paint 4.) Runefang Steel - Layer Paint Brass Lock 1.) Warplock Bronze - Base Coat Paint 2.) Agrax Earthshade - Shade Paint 3.) Brass Scorpion - Layer Paint 4.) Runelord Brass - Layer Paint Tonight's video will concentrate on painting our plastic casket components including our box, door, and coin contact tray. Finally, we will be installing our final electronic contact pieces and screwing it all together. I will show you how this is done in the video, but here's the basic "Text" run-down: The first step is to use your 400 - 800 grade sandpaper to sand the plastic pieces to provide a good painting "tooth" for your primer to stick to. Use your Citadel Liquid Greenstuff to fill in any sink marks in the plastic. Once the Liquid Greenstuff has dried, you can sand it down using your 400 grade sandpaper. Remove the sanding dust using your old toothbrush and a painter's tack rag. Your model kit is now ready for primer paint! For primer, I like to use Tremclad Enamel Flat Black spray paint. Follow all safety directions on the can as you primer paint your model kit. You should allow 24 hours for the primer paint to set before you apply any other paints to your model kit. We begin applying the Rhinox Hide, Agrax Earthshade, Doombull Brown, Tuskgor Fur and Terminatus Stone paints to the model kit's wood grain sections. Rhinox Hide is a Base Paint, and you want to apply this color solidly as it will be the "lowest point" of your paint layers. It is your base foundation level of paint. Once this color has dried, you can apply the Agrax Earthshade Shade Paint, which is designed to flow into all the cracks and crevices of your model kit's wood grain panels. The shade colors are a deeper value than the base color and will darken the base color. Allow longer time for this paint to dry. The first Layer Paint color, Doombull Brown, will bring the color value back up again and brighten the panels. You want to apply the first layer paint color to all panels using the dry brush technique and avoid painting this color as a solid. Avoid painting into the corners of each panel and concentrate on where light would naturally hit the casket. The second Layer Paint, Tuskgor Fur, will further bring up the color value again. I usually apply this to the very top most parts of the model kit, where the sunlight would hit it the most. The Dry Paint, Terminatus Stone, will bring out the "Intense Light" elements to the paint job. I only apply this to the top and very sparingly. The paints required for the steel bands and brass lock can be applied using the same technique as the wood grain panels. Keep in mind that the sun should always shine downwards on your model kit for the most realism. This would put the sun in the "High Noon" position of your model kit. Keep that in mind when applying your Layer and Dry paints and you won't go wrong. Finally, we want to pop our door into our model kit and then apply our metal coin contact points and then screw the entire Arii 37001 Skull Head Ghost Box model together. This is easily done by carefully spreading the two front sides of the casket apart and working the door "pins" into the two holes on either side of the box until they click into place. Next, you want to push the contact plates through the holes on the coin platform, pushing the wires (one per contact point) through the contact plate holes, winding the wires through the holes, and then positioning the platform in the box and screwing the entire box together through the four screws on the bottom. Make sure your Skull Head actuating arm and cam lobe is positioned as in the instructions before screwing the box together. Test your Arii 37001 Skull Head Ghost Box by pulling out the platform and placing a coin on the contact points. The skull head should come out, grab the coin, and pull it back into the box, shutting off, and awaiting the next coin. #ariimodelkits #ariighostbox #monsterhobbies
