Compound Pendulum
Using a sensor based digital stop clock and a bar pendulum variation of period (T) with point of suspension is studied and radius of gyration (K) and acceleration due to gravity (g) are determined. Introduction Acceleration due to gravity is one of the most important physical constants that can be measured easily using a simple pendulum. Mechanical stop clock with hand operation leads to inaccurate time measurements leading to discrepancy in the ‘g’ value. Hence sensor based digital stop clocks without human interference is used at present. A sensor based digital simple pendulum is developed by us recently. Through this experiment we introduce another experiment based on the same measurement technique. Compound or bar pendulum A bar of material such a wooden meter scale or metal bar can be used to determine acceleration due to gravity by hanging them from an axis of rotation.
