Song to the Moon From The Opera Rusalka | Featuring Pianist Mariel Ilusorio & Soprano Anna Migallos

The FEU Center for the Arts presents Antonin Dvorak’s Song to the Moon From The Opera Rusalka featuring pianist Mariel Ilusorio and soprano Anna Migallos. The concert featured pianist Mariel Ilusorio, violinist Denise Huang, and soprano Anna Migallos. They performed Twilight Way from Poetic Tone Pictures for solo piano, Humoresque arranged for violin, the Sonatina and Romance for violin and piano, In Folk Tone, Gypsy Songs, and Song to the Moon from the opera Rusalka. These performances were all recorded in the historic FEU Auditorium. Two of them were recorded on the exact date of Dvorak’s 180th birthday, September 8, 2021. ***** Dvorak wanted to be known as an opera composer. Since he was active when Czech national opera was being established, he focused on three particular subjects for his operas: stories of rural Czech village life, Slavic history, and his personal favorite—fairy tales. Rusalka is a fairy tale about a water nymph who falls in love with a prince and yearns to be mortal. Think Little Mermaid, but darker—much darker. In this version, Rusalka does not marry the prince and she most certainly does not live happily ever after.     “Mesicku na nebi hlubokem,” more famously know as Song to the Moon, is Rusalka’s aria from Act 1. Rusalka sings this song asking the moon to reveal her love to the prince.
