Kate McLaren Sedgehog
A sedgehog tied in Kate McLaren colours, a tenuous link to the Kate McLaren and perhaps an overcomplicated tying of an excellent fly. Normally tie my sedgehogs in either claret or orange without a tag and hackle matching body colour. I like to include a head hackle but it is not a requirement of the pattern. The sedgehog is a great dry/disturbance pattern on lochs and can often pull fish unto the surface even when there is not a rise. Can be fished as a dry or in the same way as a muddler. A great fly in a wave but also useful in calm conditions, especially in smaller sizes. Personally I would not like to go fishing for wild brown trout without a few of these flies with me.
