Many folks worry about this question, but fortunately, there’s an economic index that does a remarkably good job of answering it—the Conference Board’s Leading Economic Index (LEI) series. This series comprises 10 indicators that tell whether there will be more or less economic activity ahead. These indicators include data such as the interest rate spread, the Leading Credit Index, manufacturers’ new orders and building permits.
