Dalai Lama is a Tibetan monk and spiritual leader. He received the 1989 Nobel Peace Prize in recognition of his pacifist campaign to end Chinese domination in Tibet. Dalai Lama was born in the village of Takster, in eastern Tibet, a region located in southwest China, on July 6, 1935. The son of a farming family, he was named Lhamo Dhondrub.
