Vegetables - What's in a serve?
It’s not always easy to know how much food we should eat at each meal occasion especially when eating out, which can make it quite difficult to work out how much we have eaten. Add to this that we are told to eat five serves of vegetables and 2 serves of fruit everyday but without being told how much makes a serve, it can lead to a lot of confusion. So if you are looking for some clarity just remember that a serve of fruit is normally a medium piece of whole fruit i.e. an apple, pear or banana or if you are not sure aim for 150g. When it comes to a serve of veggies it’s even easier because one serve equates to around 1/2 a cup of cooked veggies and 1 cup of raw or salad veggies. Now if you manage to eat all 5 and 2 you will probably find that you are quite full so will only want small serves of other food groups. Check out this short video for more information.
