Now a cabin air filter's going to do for your car what a furnace filter does for your house. It's going to filter all the air before it goes through our vents, making sure we have the freshest and cleanest air we can.Now over time what's going to happen is our filter will get filled up with dirt and get clogged, and the air's not going to be able to flow through. That's going to build up a lot of pressure in our heating and cooling system which can get down the road and cause a lot of damage. So you want to make sure that you check your filter about every 12- to 18,000 miles or once a year, or you can double check your owner's manual for a specific time. But we're going to go ahead and check ours and replace it if we need to. We're going to start out by coming to the passenger's side and we're going to open up the lower section of our glove box. Now, you've got a couple different options of how we can get access to our filter. We can take the entire glove box down, or if we look inside, we are going to have this trap door. We're going to press down on those tabs, and we can pull the door out. If we look inside, we'll find the cover and it will have an arrow saying up on it. Now, the passenger side towards the right, you'll have this tab, press in on this tab, slide the cover out, and then pull towards the outside. It just has a little notch that's going to latch into. The grab our filter and pull it out. Now you can see the difference between our two filters. The original one's doing a pretty good job because it's actually changing colors. But if we open it up, we can see the larger debris that's in there that can cause a lot of damage. Now, the charcoal filter does have that coating on it, so it's going to do a really good job of cutting down on the odors and emissions, especially if you have breathing problems. So since our filter is so dirty, we'll go ahead and take our new one and we can put it in place.I do want to mention, you'll notice that they're going to have an air flow with a couple arrows written on our filter. You want to make sure it's in the correct position, so you want to make sure those arrows are pointing up. Then you simply just slide our filter into the compartment, get that small notch lined up, click the cover in place, and then we're going to replace our trap door. And we'll be ready to hit the road.If you haven't checked your cabin filter in a while, or if you didn't know you had one, it'd be a good idea to open up the glove box and check it. And you saw just how easy it was, so there's no need to pay anybody else to do it for you. But that will finish up your look at the PTC custom-fit charcoal cabin air filter on our 2017 Prius V.
