Hands on with the Huawei Mate XS Foldable Smartphone with 5G in Dubai

Huawei has launched the Mate Xs onto the regional market. The announcement was done today through a virtual press conference at the Huawei regional HQ in Dubai Internet City. The Huawei Mate Xs is powered by the company’s very own Kirin 990 5G SoC. It comes with an improved Falcon Wing Design at the hinge to offer a seamless user experience in both smartphone and tablet modes. What’s more, the Huawei Mate Xs also packs in 5G capability. On the front, the device features an 8-inch FullView display in tablet mode. The company says that its Falcon Wing design features more than 100 interlocking parts to keep everything in its place. When folded, the main screen on the Mate Xs measures 6.6-inches, while the secondary screen measures 6.38-inches. The Huawei Mate Xs also natively supports Multi-Window which allows for two apps to be displayed side by side and interact with each other.  Text, images and documents can be transferred as easily as dragging and dropping the content from one app to the other. The Mate Xs runs on EMUI10.0.1, which is an Android Open Source Project-based operating system. The Mate Xs also supports the Multi-Screen Collaboration feature, which allows users to easily transfer files between the Mate Xs and a Huawei MateBook, as well as control two systems from a single display. As mentioned earlier, the Mate Xs is powered by the Kirin 990 5G SoC. This SoC includes an octa-core CPU comprising two super-sized custom Cortex-A76 cores, two large custom Cortex-A76 cores, and four small Cortex-A55 cores, running at a base clock of 2.86GHz.  The Kirin 990 5G SoC also includes an integrated 5G modem. At the back, you also get a SuperSensing Leica Quad Camera system. This includes a 40MP wide-angle main camera featuring an f/1.8 aperture, a 16MP ultra-wide angle camera with an f/2.2 aperture, an 8MP telephoto camera with an f/2.4 aperture and Optical Image Stabilization, and a 3D Depth Sensing Camera.  You get up to 30X of hybrid zoom and an ISO of up to 204800. The Mate Xs includes a Flying Fish Fin Cooling System that is designed for the foldable form factor. The Huawei Mate Xs is also one of the first Huawei devices to launch with a revamped AppGallery, Huawei’s official app distribution platform. The Huawei Mate Xs will be available for pre-orders, starting 15th March 2020. Local prices are still to be decided, though the official global launch has pegged the price tag of the Huawei Mate Xs at €2,499.
