TBPPM Friday Forum 24-1 | How can private providers offer social protection in TB?
Centering our first 2024 Friday Forum discussion on people’s needs during TB care guided by the question: "How to best provide social protection and what mechanism do private providers tap into to support to their TB patients?". Quality of care can be improved in the private sector, as we see in standardized patient studies (In our 7 Feb Webinar) that the care is sub-standard. Yet most private practices are tuned in to the performance of their clinic, and are keen to ensure client satisfaction. In this Friday Forum, we explore experiences of people with TB, providers and those managing TB programs to better understand lessons learned about social protection in the private health sector. In general, successful social protection programs work best when tailored to the local situation and the specific needs of patients. But there is not yet a policy framework or guideline that outlines the most effective social protection for improving treatment outcomes or how to best integrate social protection within tuberculosis control programmes. To learn more about practical experience with social protection from the perspective of people affected by TB, providers and program managers, the Friday Forum discussion will address several questions to guide the overall discussion: 1. What type of social protection was part of your TB journey? Tell us about your experience with social protection. 2. What is your experience in care and support for people with TB, and what are ways you provide social protection for people with TB across the care cascade/ patient pathway? 3. What is WHO guidance on social protection for people with TB across the care cascade/ patient pathway? What are TB providers and TB programs encouraged to do? 4. Is there a difference in social protection mechanisms between public and private providers? 5. What are the challenges in providing social protection and TB? 6. What is the priority in providing social protection from your experience? ------------- Be a part of the TBPPM Learning Network: https://www.tbppm.org/ Follow us on Twitter: https://twitter.com/tb_ppm
