The Godfather Theme played on carillon bells

Composed by Nino Rota, arranged by Tom Gurin Performed by Tom Gurin at Christ Church Cranbrook July 4, 2021 My website: https://tomgurin.com ~ What is a carillon? No two carillons are the same. Most carillons use around 50 bells, all connected to an organ-style double keyboard through a web of criss-crossing mechanical wires, levers, and springs. The oldest carillons are in centuries-old church towers in Belgium and the Netherlands. The largest are in North America, weigh over 100,000 pounds, and can be heard for miles in all directions. Technical definition: a musical instrument composed of 23 or more tuned bronze bells connected to a double keyboard that allows expression through variation of touch via manual batons and foot pedals. I am a graduate of Yale University and have performed on over 75 carillons around Europe and North America. I am an active carillon composer and performer and was Duke University Chapel Carillonneur in Durham, North Carolina until 2021. My recent guest concerts include Princeton University, the University of Michigan, the University of Rochester, First United Methodist Church of Germantown, Longwood Gardens, Annecy (France), and more. I frequently collaborate with contemporary composers based in Europe and the U.S., including a recent project with NYC-based composer David Cieri. I am currently a Fulbright-Harriet Hale Woolley Scholar in Paris and hold a degree in music from Yale University. I graduated “with great distinction” from the Royal Carillon School of Belgium as a United States Fellow of the Belgian American Educational Foundation before serving as Duke University Chapel Carillonneur until 2021. I chaired the Yale University Guild of Carillonneurs from 2017-18 and have been a member of the Guild of Carillonneurs in North America since 2017.
