3D Print a Fast Paddle Boat and Win a 3D Printer!

Remember building those simple wooden paddle boats powered by rubber bands as a kid? We do, and we remember what a blast it was to construct, test, and then race them against our friends. Now, thanks to the MAKE organization, kids of all ages - young students, adults, parents, and even grandparents can relive those days and have a chance to win a free 3D printer in the process. We asked Matt Stultz, the 3D Printing Editor at MAKE to explain the contest background, rules and schedules. It sounds really cool to us and we’re sure you will be just as excited. The final competition takes place Sunday May 17th at the Bay Area Maker Faire in San Mateo California, but Matt has agreed to hold the registration open until midnight on Saturday. Time to fire up your design skills and get your 3D printer humming. The competition is divided into categories so that novices don’t end up being skunked by professional engineers/designers. Still, Matt told us that he would like nothing more than for some brilliant design guru to show up and totally amaze people with their paddle boat performance. He’d love to scratch his head and say, “How the heck did they do that?” Related links: http://www.moatboatpaddlebattle.com/
