Bloodborne Let's Play 18 - Gilear Bids His Friends Farewell

Gilear flips a coin. He has two paths ahead of him: he can proceed back to Yahar'gul, or he can use the eye of a blood-drunk hunter that the messengers gave him, and try his luck there. The coin dictates that he will proceed to Yahar'gul, so he returns to the city full of red skies and bloodied monsters. The area is rife with bell-ringing ladies, whose presence brings back to life the villagers that Gilear cuts down, and gives them extra strength as well. Still, he pushes forward, and discovers a key to a locked door in the Upper Cathedral Ward. Shortly after, Gilear comes to a balcony overlooking an unpleasantly familiar area: the Hypogean Gaol. So, Gilear turns tail and runs, coin be damned. Seeking comfort in familiar faces, Gilear searches the Cathedral Ward for his friends, or comrades, or compatriots...the only sane people he knows, Alfred and Eileen. He finds Alfred first, and gifts him the unopened summons to Cainhurst Castle. Alfred celebrates and is quite excited about venturing out. Next, he finds Eileen the Crow, and she is in a sorry state. He blood covers the steps outside of the Grand Cathedral. She was hunting another mad hunter, and was overtaken by him. While she assures Gilear she has taken enough blood to survive, Gilear is enraged at seeing his friend so grievously wounded. He is so mad he doesn't quite hear Eileen speak about not being able to dream, and instead heads in to the Cathedral where he fought Amelia. He is promptly murdered. The man inside has a blade that he drenches in his own blood, and a pistol that fires three incredibly powerful rounds. Power over blood is a theme here, and this man has mastered that medium. Gilear returns again and again, passing the wounded Eileen each time as he enters the Cathedral and confronts this hunter, only to be slain. He is strong, but Gilear can return to life again and again, and he will do so as many times as it may take to avenge Eileen. Finally, after luring the mad hunter down the stairs and closer to the great cathedral doors, Gilear succeeds and overtakes the bloody hunter! He checks on Eileen, who gives him thanks, and a badge that will grant him access to the garb worn by the hunters of hunters. Gilear heads back to the dream to examine this new gear, but, upon returning to thank Eileen once more, he finds only the puddle of her blood atop the steps. Eileen is gone. Fearing the worst, Gilear travels to Cainhurst to check on Alfred. The castle is a dangerous place, and tragedy could have befallen this kind man! And tragedy has, but not through death. Alfred has pulverized Annalise, so nothing remains but goo and slightly pulsating organs. Before he throne, Alfred is ranting about his success, and the tenor of his voice indicates that his mind is slipping. He is losing himself to the madness of Yarnham. Gilear steels himself and attacks Alfred from behind. A fight ensues and, though Alfred is a strong warrior with a large...wheel?...as a weapon, Gilear overcomes that strength and, with the Holy Sword of Ludwig, puts Alfred to rest.
