What to know about Kentucky football star freshman Dane Key after Florida touchdown

Kentucky football signed the highest-ranked recruiting class of the Mark Stoops era in 2022. That group was headlined by multiple four-star receivers, including Lexington native Dane Key. ESPN has the wrong photo on Dane Key’s player page While Key opened his college career with four catches for 53 yards and one touchdown in the 2022 season-opening win over Miami (Ohio), that performance was still not enough to get the World Wide Leader in sports to use his correct picture. Instead, Key’s ESPN player page and the broadcast of the Kentucky-Florida game showed a picture of freshman walk-on receiver Cole Lanter. Lanter had some fun when the mistake was pointed out on Twitter after UK’s opener, but ESPN had still not fixed the issue in time for the second game of the season. Key made sure no one would forget his face in that game with a 55-yard circus catch for Kentucky’s first touchdown versus Florida. Dane Key is a legacy recruit for Kentucky football Key is the son of former UK player Donte Key and brother of Kansas City Chiefs defensive back Devon Key. The 247Sports Composite ranked Key as the Bluegrass State’s top prospect in the 2022 high school class. With Kentucky showing off an improved passing game with Levis at quarterback, Key picked the Wildcats over finalists Michigan, Oregon and South Carolina. Dane Key made an early impression on teammates after enrolling early Key graduated a semester early to enroll at Kentucky in January 2022. He shined in spring practice, capping that performance with a touchdown in the spring game. That showing was enough to lock down a starting spot for Key before he even opened his first preseason camp with the Wildcats. “He acts like a vet,” Levis said of Key in July. “He gets it, he knows the hard work. He’s got the right mindset. Awesome kid, nicest kid ever. Takes care of his business in the classroom. … He’s got to go into the facility and earn that job every single day, but not a lot of true freshmen have that opportunity.
