Student Activism & The Bankstown Occupation - Part 1: Fern Thompsett

The Bankstown occupation of 1999 was the longest occupation of a New South Wales University admin building in the 90s. After 14 days, admin admitted defeat - signing a six page agreement that conceded to 27 demands around improving basic conditions in the university. Fern Thompsett, co-founder of the Brisbane Free University, offers us a critical perspective on the role of universities in knowledge production within a capitalist society.
