The Fantastic Mister Fruity (2005) Walkthrough + Review, ZX Spectrum

Huge playlist archive with games from 2005-2013: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLxOanVBhqd3uodzx7gXgN_6LpHWIKwjww THE PLOT (From the instructions): Mister Fruity is proud of his magic garden, and rightly so. He has won many a prize at the local show for his amazing and fantastic fruits and all the other contestants are envious of this success. None are more jealous than the prankster Guzzgog, who creeps into Mister Fruity's garden late one evening and casts a spell summoning up a variety of mischievous creatures from the black orchard. When our hero awakes the following morning it is to a scene of utter devastation. There are bad apples wandering around everywhere, his supply of home-brewed fruit wines has been pilfered, and someone has trampled all over the strawberries. With the show less than a week away Mister Fruity needs to remove the unwanted visitors before he can tidy up the garden. I realise it's asking a lot, but would you be willing to give him a helping hand? The Mission: Guide Mister Fruity around each of the thirty-two levels, despatching the bad fruit as you go. Pressing fire opens a portal to another orchard, and starts the fruit machine reels spinning. When the reels stop jackpot symbols explode in every direction. If a jackpot symbol hits one of the fruits wandering around the maze, and that fruit appears on the winline, it gets whisked off and you get a little bonus to pick up. Three of a kind on the winline also gives a points bonus, or 3 jackpot symbols gives an extra life. Fruit machines are never free to play however, so every time you spin the reels a certain amount - the stake - is deducted from your credit. If you're playing on stake 1 this is 10 points, but you can increase the stake with the stake change key, before you spin the reels. The more you stake, the bigger the potential rewards - but a few unsuccessful spins on the higher stakes (stakes 3 and 5) will quickly reduce your credit, and it's very easy to come away with a negative amount, rather like a fruit machine where you lose all your money! For maximum scores increase the stake when you are confident of depatching some bad fruit, and reduce the stake when you are less so. Cost of Play and Award Card: Action _______________Stake 1____Stake 3___Stake 5 Spin reels______________-10________-30________-50 Despatch bad fruit ____+30 _______+90 ______+150 3 cherries on winline ___+20 ______+60 ______+100 3 lemons on winline____+30 ______+90 ______+150 3 melons on winline____+40______+120______+200 3 apples on winline_____+50______+150______+250 3 pears on winline______+60______+180______+300 3 jackpots on winline__+1 life____+1 life_____+1 life 3 features on winline_+1 level___+1 level___+1 level If you like Pacman games this is a worthy clone, adding it’s very own elements to the gameplay. Unlike the Pacman games you will not have a whole bunch of ghosts / enemies chasing you, actually it is you that have to chase the creatures from the black orchard, and place your portal to the other orchard, so the jackpot symbols will hit the creatures when they explode. You also have to be aware that just like on a real fruit machine, you do not necessarily hit the jackpot and get the symbols you need to eliminate the creatures, so when the portal is placed, you’d better run for save, because the creatures might survive if they are not hit by the correct symbols. Don’t get hit yourself, you will get killed no matter what the symbols are! The gameplay is smooth, the controls are good, you got a jolly tune that fits the game well, and there is 32 levels to beat. The game was written by Jonathan Cauldwell and Matthew Westcott and published by Cronosoft in 2005. Rating = 84% You can buy the game here: https://cronosoft.fwscart.com/Spectrum/cat5357733_4119462.aspx
