Gila Bend, AZ to Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument
A drive on Arizona Highway 85 from Gila Bend, AZ to Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument. A few miles south of Gila Bend, we encounter the eroded volcanic Crater Mountains, famous for their jagged shapes and appearance. Then to the copper mining town of Aho (spelled Aho), home to the New Cornelia Copper Mine. The colorful tailings and mining equipment are seen from the highway. The town of Why is near another volcanic range called the Pozo Redondo Mountains. Upon entering Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument we see the Ajo Mountain Range, followed by the Puerto Blanco Mountains close to the visitor center.
