The famously picturesque lighted Ferris wheel on the pier has been dark since May 5 to prepare for the unveiling of an improved lighting system. To commemorate Pacific Park's 20th anniversary, the new and improved solar-powered Ferris wheel will be turned on Thursday. With nearly $1 million in upgrades, the solar-powered wheel’s display capabilities will be upgraded. The display will go from being able to produce eight colors to 16.8 million colors, the display frame rate will go from 3 frames a second to a cinematic 24 frames per second, and the resolution of the wheel will be increased to 2,560 pixels, providing a more dynamic and custom computer-generated visual experience.
