Goblins vs Gnomes (often abbreviated as GvG) is the first expansion for Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft, released on December 8th 2014 in the Americas region, and on 9th/10th December in other regions.[1] The second infusion of new cards to be added to the game, the expansion features 143 new cards (123 of which are collectible), with a strong mechanical theme, and introduces the new Mech minion type, as well as debuting the long-awaited spectator mode. The accompanying patch also brings some card changes, with the cost of Flare, Soulfire and Gadgetzan Auctioneer all increased by 1. Several days ahead of the full launch of the expansion, on December 4th 2014 the accompanying patch 2.0.0.7234 was released, bringing with it spectator mode, the new battlefield, and all planned card and system changes. In addition, the patch also made all Goblins vs Gnomes card available in arena, as well as some uncollectible cards available in constructed play.[2][3] To accompany the launch of the cards, all players who log in to Hearthstone from the expansion's launch until December 19 will receive three free Goblins vs Gnomes card packs.[4] Players who logged in between 4th and 8th December also received one free arena run.[5] Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft is a free-to-play digital collectible card game (CCG) developed by Blizzard Entertainment. Announced at the Penny Arcade Expo in March 2013, the game entered open beta in January 2014, and was released in March 2014. Hearthstone is available on the Microsoft Windows and OS X operating systems and on iPad and Windows 8 Touch devices. Android tablet platform release is planned in December 2014 while iPhone and Android phone platform releases are planned for the beginning of 2015.[1] New content for the game involves the addition of new card sets and gameplay, such as from the Curse of Naxxramas adventure and the first card expansion Goblins vs. Gnomes. As of September 2014, there are more than 20 million registered Hearthstone accounts.[2][3]
