MPC Roundtable—Building Resilience: How To Engage and Mobilize Vulnerable Communities
Substandard housing. Unsafe environmental conditions. Poor health. Isolation. These are just a few characteristics that can cripple a vulnerable community in the face of natural disasters such as Katrina or Sandy, as well as prolonged struggles like Chicagoland’s periodic heat waves and floods. Vulnerable communities have limited capacities to plan for, avoid and bounce back from the impact of natural and man-made emergencies.
