THE MAGIC FLUTE ACT 1 FINALE, PART 1
The original Magic Flute was created for a small theater in Vienna, and so is a Singspiel, or musical play. In keeping with this, the Comic Opera Guilds Thomas Petiet crafted a translation that is both less grandiose than many operatic versions and sings well. This 2002 production was designed to travel easily and was toured throughout Michigan. Tamino (Chris Meerdink) arrives at Sarastros temple, intent on entering and doing what needs to be done to rescue Pamina. He is stopped by the First Priest (Don Regan), who explains all may not be as Tamino imagines. For more comic operas and operettas, visit comicoperaguild.org.
