The 1" screens used in cinemas: DMD chip closeups

This tiny chip, called a Digital Mirror Device (DMD), is the beating heart of every Texas Instruments DLP projector. This one from a mid-2000s projector measures less than 1" across and has a resolution of 800x600. When the projector is stripped of the case and lens assembly, one can clearly see the tiny DMD inside. The DMD on its own is black and white; a colorwheel or three colored LEDs add the color to the final image you see projected. In this video, I first show a view of the DMD chip down the chassis with the lens removed, then completely remove the DMD chip from the case to demonstrate its remarkably small size. #technology #projector #dlp
