The Fairie-Round - Anthony Holborne (16th c. Renaissance) [Recorder, Violins, Cello]

This enchanted little galliard was written by the English Renaissance composer, Anthony Holborne. It has also been my favourite recording to make, so far. It was originally published in 1599 as the 63rd piece in Holborne's "Pavans, Galliards, Almains and other Short Aeirs". The rhythmic variety in this piece is incredible as it is teeming with both vertical and horizontal hemiolas. This makes it exceptionally fun to play. David Munrow's recording of the Fairie-Round was also included on the Voyager Golden Record which is now around 20,000,000,000 km away from Earth. I hope the aliens like Renaissance Music. Instruments: Recorder (Cantus) Violin I (Altus, Not shown) Violin II (Quintus) Violin III (Tenor) Cello (Bassus)
