ORNL MSRE PDFs - Dr. Per Peterson of U.C. Berkeley via TEAC7
In 2004 Kirk Sorensen arrived at University of California Berkeley with a stack of CD-ROMs. The discs contained scanned PDFs of Oak Ridge National Labs research into Molten Salt Reactors. (This was the Molten Salt Reactor Experiment headed by Alvin Weinberg.) Back in 2004, hosting gigabytes of data on personal websites was an expensive proposition. So Kirk Sorensen instead propagated these reports by duplicating CD-ROMs. The scanning of these documents had been made possible by NASA, Kirk Sorensen's employer at the time. Molten Salt Reactors were being investigated as a means of powering a lunar colony. Today all scanned ORNL reports can be found here: http://web.ornl.gov/info/reports/ Indexed subset most pertinent to MSR R&D: http://energyfromthorium.com/pdf/ Dr. Per Peterson is developing the Fluoride Salt Cooled High Temperature Reactor (PB-FHR), which uses pebble shaped fuel rather than dissolved (molten) fuel. This is thought to have an easier regulatory pathway than liquid fuel reactors. http://fhr.nuc.berkeley.edu/ This interview was conducted thanks to Thorium Energy Alliance having requested a tour of Berkeley CIET and X-PREX facilities. http://ThoriumEnergyAlliance.com/ Kirk Sorensen launched Flibe Energy in 2011 and is developing the Liquid Fluoride Thorium Reactor (LFTR). http://FlibeEnergy.com/ This questions asked in this interview are used in upcoming "Thorium Remix 2015", a documentary to be released for free on YouTube. https://www.patreon.com/thorium?ty=h The most recent (June 2015) CIET and PREX tours are still being edited. For a look at Kirk Sorensen's previous (January 2015) tour of these facilities see: https://youtu.be/lEeGyjlJpn0
