Seoul Night Walk on Sejong Village _ Korea travel Guide

Sejong Village is located in the area between the eastern part of Inwangsan Mountain and Gyeongbokgung Palace. During the Joseon Period Period it was known by various names including Junsubang, Indalbang, Sunhwabang, Utdae, Udae and Sangdae village, and was largely populated by jungin (middle people) and commoners. The village is home to such historic sites as the Birthplace Site of King Sejong and the Site of Yi Hangbok's House. It is also the place where a famous writing contest called Okgye Sisa was held, and where Inwang jesaekdo (Scene of Inwangsan Mountain after Rain) was produced by the renowned painter Jeong Seon pen-name: Gyeomjae). A house in which the noted calligrapher Kim Jeong-hui (pen-name: Chusa once lived can also be found in the village. During modern times, many painters and poets including Yi jung-seop, Yun Dong-ju, Yi sang and Park No-su resided in this village, maintaining the area's artistic spirit. Currently, the village is filled with nearly 600 Hanok Korean traditional houses), a traditional market, small galleries, and craft workshops.
