Children and teens record original song for Martin Luther King, Jr. Family Outreach Center 'Legacy' group writes and records song about courage SPOKANE—Children enrolled in the Summer Youth Academy do more than discuss good character, they are hands-on with the qualities of courage, integrity, responsibility, fairness, kindness, and respect. Working together, five children wrote an original pop song about courage. The song, "Courageous" was recorded at The Village Experience, a non-profit music studio in Spokane. The song is now available for download at iTunes, Amazon.com, Napster and other MP3 download websites. Keywords: Legacy, Courageous Children study a different character trait each week for 8 weeks. Teaching staff design discussions and activities to promote participation. Children in Shanell Rogers' 2nd-4th Grade class were assigned the task of writing a song about the character trait, courage. The children performed their songs for their class and one group stood apart from the rest. "They took this task pretty seriously," says Rogers. "They worked well together and spent nearly two hours of focused time writing and practicing. Their hard work really showed in the end result."
