Von der Hauptstadt des Kantons Neuenburg führt eine Standseilbahn auf diesen vordersten Jurarücken. Der Neuenburgersee ist der grösste See auf Schweizer Boden. Neben dem Bielersee (fr. Lac de Bienne) und dem Lac de Morat (dt. Murtensee) gehört der Neuenburgersee zu den grossen Jurarandseen. Direkt am Ufer des Neuenburgersees befindet sich die Spielstätte des FC Xamax. Der ungewöhnliche Name dieses Traditionsvereins setzt sich aus dem Spitznamen eines früheren Spitzenspielers und Mitbegründers zusammen (Max «Xam» Abegglen). 2007 wurde an der Stelle der altehrwürdigen Maladière das moderne Stade de la Maladière eröffnet. Gleich daneben steht mit der Église Notre-Dame ein wahrer Blickfang: Beim Bau der von 1906 stammenden Kirche wurde zum Kunststein passend rot gefärbter Zement verwendet. Im Innern der Église Rouge (dt. rote Kirche) prangen 10'000 Sterne. Neuchâtel versteht sich als Stadt des Austausches. Sie liegt am Übergang von der französischsprachigen Romandie zur Deutschschweiz, vom Jura zum Mittelland, vom Einzugsgebiet der Rhone zum Rhein, von den Ländern des Nordens zum Süden.
