i need help getting iphone 3g out of recovery mode!!!!!!!!!

OK, so heres the whole back story the day i got this iphone i jailbroke using redsn0w v.8 and it worked. and ive been using it for about 3 weeks now. about 3 days ago i was installing an app from cydia called poof and when i went to reboot the iphone it froze on the silver screen. thinking it was a minor thing i reset it. with the same result. ive been searching for about a day now and i finally found out about recovery mode. as you see, my iphone is in recovery mode and is now showing the connect to itunes logo. but when i go to do a hard reset it keeps coming back to the recovery screen. what should i do.
