1985 Mercedes-Benz 380SL For Sale~Hard Top~Low Miles~Fantastic Roadster!
11985 Mercedes-Benz 380SL Roadster For Sale The SL model was a 2-seat convertible/roadster with standard soft top and removable hardtop. The 380SL (R107 in Mercedes-speak) took the chassis components of the mid-size Mercedes-Benz W114 model and installed the larger engines from the top-of-the-line S-Class (W116), which produced excellent performance. The V8 engines were re-tuned for greater efficiency and consumed less fuel. Also in 1985, the Bosch KE Jetronic was fitted, employing a more modern engine management computer, which controlled idle speed, fuel rate, and air/fuel mixture. The U.S. R107 sported quad headlights and front and rear safety bumpers with 8 inches of rubber on each end. The 380SL most closely resembles the original concept of the R107 introduced in 1972 in terms of engine size and weight, and many consider this the best balanced model in the 17-year model run. It benefits from the several significant improvements engineered along the way: KE Jetronic fuel injection, 4-speed transmission, climate control system, higher axle ratios, etc. Thus, the later years are considered to be very desirable examples of the 380SL breed, with the 1985 being the most sought after. This particular example was a summer car of a NYC resident, so it spent winters garaged, away from salt and snow, and received only light summer use. This explains its entirely rust-free, excellent condition and extremely low mileage. It is finished in a rarely seen, but highly attractive Silver Blue Metallic, with Navy Blue leather interior. The soft-top is the deluxe Hartz Cloth as furnished by the factory (one repair to vinyl quarter window, not visible while driving), and there is a removable matching hardtop (perfect) that comes with the car. The interior is superb, with no cracks on the dash and no visible wear on the leather seats or door panels. All lights and accessories work including the A/C and the original Becker AM/FM Stereo radio with power antenna. In short, this is an excellent example of a Mercedes model that has begun to appreciate (as recently written up by Hemmings Motor News and Haggerty), as the newer SLs (post 1989) have been relegated to used cars, and the previous SLs are reaching or exceeding six figures in value.
