Quake Team Fortress - Fallen Angels vs. Active Resistance I, pt. 1
September 21, 1998 Fallen Angels vs. Active Resistance bam4 [FA]Tick.MD-3e- O medic, spy, soldier SPEEDStats: http://qwtf.digitaljedi.com/faar1-bam4-19981027/ This was round 1 of a qualifying match for the Final Apoc tournament against Active Resistance. The Final Apoc tournament was supposed to be an extremely prestigious tournament, a sequel to the Apocalypse tournament, won by Iron Curtain with an undefeated record despite the organizers claiming that no one was going to go undefeated during the tournament. In any case, we felt that FA was an up-and-coming clan and nothing would raise our profile more than qualifying for the Final Apoc tournament. We knew we had a winnable group but we had to take care of business against AR. The round ended tied at 3 caps, with a slight frag lead to us (the scoring format was flags+frags.) They took an early lead, we managed to cap twice, they capped twice, and we managed a final cap with the flag in the water between bases at the end for what would have been our fourth cap. On the other hand, the round ran 32 minutes instead of the usual 30, so it was a moot point. Highlights for me include the decent flag movement I managed and the many sentry guns I destroyed, as well as the time near the end when I helped myself to the enemy's armor and ammunition from a dispenser. The most frustrating moments were the relay for the first cap, in which I grabbed their flag in the entry hall and was going to escape, only for Fuzz Bubble to toss a concussion grenade and stop my progress, allowing the defense to kill me (though fortunately, he did grab the flag and finish the cap) and the relay for the third cap, in which I went spy, got behind their piper who was guarding the flag in the ramp room, only for my hand grenade not to kill him. Rather than try to finish the job, I just grabbed the flag and ran. I went high to avoid enemy fire but then decided I'd better get down on the floor so that if I died the flag was in a spot where it could be grabbed easily (which is what wound up happening.) All in all, a good round to watch.
