TOUR REMOTE EK BALAM AND CHICHEN ITZA, MAYAN CITIES, MEXICO

Tour EK BALAM AND CHICHEN ITZA, Mayan cities in the Yucatan, Mexico with guide Miguel Pasos and my family. You can reach our excellent guide Miguel Pasos at info@cancundeluxe.net or Miguel D. at ToursByLocals, if you need a great guide in the Cancun area. Seldom visited Ek Balam is a Mayan archaeological site in Mexico - about 35 miles northeast of it's more famous neighbor, Chichen Itza. Ek Balam was the seat of a Mayan kingdom. The site is noted for the preservation of the tomb of Ukit Kan Lek Tok, a king buried in the largest pyramid, El Torre. Well-known Chichén Itzá is a famous complex of Mayan ruins. A massive step pyramid, known as El Castillo or Temple of Kukulcan, dominates this ancient city. Chichen Itza really thrived from around 600 A.D. to the mid-1200s. In about 1400, the city declined to near zero - for reasons not fully known. Some historians believe drought, famine and disease were the causes. Ruins were not excavated until 1841. Graphic stone carvings survive at structures like the ball court, Temple of the Warriors and the Wall of the Skulls. Many travel experts feel Chichen Itza is one of the seven wonders of the modern world. I agree. Photo: from the early 1980s shows my son and I climbing El Castillo at Chichen Itza - using a chain. The chain was removed decades ago. No climbing today.
