US Pipe Smith Model - 4 1/2 Inch Valve Opening Dry Barrel Fire Hydrant

U.S. Pipe started out as Chattanooga Foundry and Pipe Company in 1882, becoming U.S. Pipe in 1899. U.S. Pipe did not manufacture fire hydrants until 1966, when the company acquired the assets and business of A.P. Smith Manufacturing of East Orange, NJ. A.P. Smith had been making fire hydrants since 1896. Hydrant production moved to Chattanooga, TN in 1970. In 2006, U.S. Pipe acquired the Mueller Company via their parent company, Walter Industries. U.S. Pipe's hydrant production ceased in 2007 with the formation of Mueller Water Products Inc., a publicly traded company formed from the former Mueller Company and U.S. Pipe. The 1978 Vintage Dry Barrel Hydrant in the video has been maintained excellent over the past half century and included removing the nozzle chains. See also A.P. Smith Mfg. Co ____________________ J.
