Behind Fear
Better safe than sorry. In her new HAU co-production Dragana Bulut stages choreographies of fear by exploring paradoxes of security and safety culture. Through the playful appropriation of security and wellness procedures “Behind Fear” navigates an external as well as an internal sense of safety and reveals the mechanisms through which our desire for it is constructed. Dragana Bulut humorously examines the inflation of security and horror of the moving, lurking danger that is too quick to be secured, but real enough to affect. A security team attempts to defend the viewer from the danger that lies in the manipulative power of theatre. A resilient nervous system needs to be fit in order to survive, but how does one cope with threats if they happen in the theatre space?
