They state that 2.4 G and is slower but goes through walls better and a longer distance for wireless, 5G is faster but the distance is less. Summary, So far, this is a good modem/router. One final note: Lighning hit the C1100Z and I had a internet cable connected to my new TV from the modem/router. The lightning fried the modem/router and ran to the TV and blew it. The TV actually popped so if you have anything connected to any modem/router via a Rj45 cable, unplug it during a storm.
