As Legio V Antiqua is about to march into Alalia, the doomed Etruscan League does something completely unexpected. Instead of recalling all its available military forces to defend its last remaining region, it sends a large naval invasion against the small Roman farming settlement of Neapolis. It is the Etruscan League's last great gamble, and the protracted battle which ensues leaves the legionaries battered and exhausted at the end, the battlefield littered with the dead bodies of the fallen, and one of the generals pays the ultimate sacrifice in service to Rome.
