Creative Minds Pushing Scientific Boundaries
Space Education & Strategic Applications 2021 Conference http://www.ipsonet.org/conferences/space-education-and-strategic-applications Description Professors Becker and Fowler will use great science fiction literature and film from the last 100 years to make the case that creative minds have a direct impact on the direction and spirit of scientific study. To do so, the authors will highlight the works of Ray Bradbury, Isaac Asimov, and Ursula K. Le Guin, among others, consider the visual impact of films on the general public, including 2001: A Space Odyssey, Star Wars, and Metropolis, among others, and showcase some of the norm-bending and often campy TV offerings like Star Trek, The Twilight Zone, and Dr. Who. When creativity took the best of science, added a little imagination, and repackaged it for a wider audience, science—including space travel— became an acceptable and expected part of everyday society, and what was possible expanded exponentially. Speakers Lindsey Larson (Moderator), American Public University System, Director, Academic Affairs, Office of the Provost David Becker (Speaker), American Public University System Jaclyn Fowler (Speaker), American Public University System, Chair, English
