Tailleferre Perpetuum Mobile
Sonate pour Harpe III. Perpetuum Mobile Composed by Germaine Tailleferre (1892-1983) Adapted Sara Bullen & Lillian Lau Performed by Justine Tiu & Mia Venezia Recorded at Northwestern University in Galvin Recital Hall The youngest of five children, the young Tailleferre began studying piano at the age of two and later composed her first works at the age of five. At the time, it was unheard for a woman to pursue a career in music. Without her father’s knowledge, she entered the Paris Conservatory in piano and music theory in 1904. After winning a medal in music theory, Tailleferre’s father allowed her to continue her studies, although still refusing to finance them. She was the only female composer in “Les Six,” a group established in 1920's consisting of six composers whose music is often seen as a reaction against both the musical style of Richard Wagner and the impressionist music of Claude Debussy and Maurice Ravel.
