Tai Lam Reservior North Trail 12km
A delayed start due to running errands at home, we started at 4:30pm from the Tai Tong Nature Park, we started our journey on the northern trail that runs along the Tai Lam Reservoir shoreline. I miscalculated sunset to be 7:32pm, in fact, the sunset was 6:32pm, thinking that we had just under 3 hrs to complete the course and have time to get to Gold Coast Marina, it wasn't until 2 hrs in that I realize I made a big mistake, and there was no turning back. Another miscalculation was towards the end of the trail there was a lot of steps to navigate up, 6 -8 flights, with the longest being around 150 steps up and down. Nicolas's rear brake had partially seized, he had lost a lot of energy peddling and almost no freewheeling, fortunately that was an easy fix, but ate up a lot of time. The same issue would happen to Marcus later, but at that time we were making our decent out of the woods, and it was getting quite dark. We stopped to put on our headlights and mounted torches and finally made it to the paved trail of the Maclehose Trail. This is one time I really hand it to my Huawei for having a 4200 mAh battery, still with 4 hrs of video taken, I still had 50%+ battery life but stopped videoing to conserve battery. 6:45pm and it was pitch black, we took the access road which was a fast, paved, downhill road, it was a pedestrian-only road, but we had no choice, fortunately there were no wardens handing out tickets, I apologized to the exiting hikers as we passed, just in case they started to complain. We made it to the town at the bottom of the mountain at 7:15pm All in all, it was great fun, yes there were crashes, too many to count, and there were some tears, but we reached the bottom sound and safe, we considered it; Mission Accomplished.
