GIS Lecture 4 - Raster and Vector Model or Structure

The two basic data models of GIS are Raster and Vector. In order to visualize natural phenomena, one must initially determine how to best characterise geographic space. Data models are a set of rubrics and/or constructs used to define and represent facets of the real world in a computer. Two principal data models are available to complete this task: raster data models and vector data models.
