Arnold Schoenberg: Verklärte Nacht (ROCO)
Arnold Schoenberg's Verklärte Nacht (translating to “Transfigured Night”) - musically sets a poem by Richard Dehmel, telling the story of a woman's walk through the woods with her lover, and a secret revealed. Though Schoenberg’s music is often associated with the “twelve-tone” system of composition he devised, this work was written in 1899 when he was just 25, and still shows the influence of German Romanticism in his lush, lyrical writing. ______________________________________ ROCO's 12th season came to a close with "Double Trouble" - featuring the premiere of Alexander Miller's ROCOmoji, a concerto grosso for double reeds exploring emotion through sound, interpreting five different emojis! Led by conductor Steven Jarvi, the concert also spotlighted ROCO principal flutist Brook Ellen Ferguson as soloist in a brilliant performance of Saverio Mercadante’s Concerto for Flute in E minor, and rounding out the program were Gustav Holst’s Brook Green Suite and Arnold Schoenberg’s transcendent Verklärte Nacht.
