What's This Blood Mage Doing On the Floor north of Lothering in Dragon Age

Fighting a darkspawn mob near the exit out of Lothering. Curiously, there is a blood mage corpse just lying on the ground here. I don't know what it means, and if you do, please put *spoiler* in your comments.
