Let's Play SOMA #13: Sludge Monsters
[TW for brief mention of suicide and frustrated cursing] Theta. Has way too many monsters. I am very done with monsters. Ko-fi: https://ko-fi.com/waldweg (Transcript in description and comments below) [TRANSCRIPT BEGINS] And I'm still here, being chased by a coughing dude. [looking at the fleshy goo and growths covering the examination table] That's not good. Seems odd, too. Like, what were they scanning? Let's see if I can close this. [the door to the examination room] Without alerting it. [closes the door; immediate moaning from the creature] Okay, so closing and opening a door alerts it. I was hoping that was not the case. [hiding in the annex with the examination table again] So it can close and open doors. [turns on a recording device nearby] [it's the medical officer, examining Akers' body; he's been consuming structure gel, is malnourished, and gouged out his own eyes] So that's what happened to Akers. What even is structural gel? [The recording says it's a ferrofluid] Ferrofluid. It's iron. Alright. So this is where Akers was brought. He's been intentionally exposing himself to the gel. And had somehow kind of become addicted to it and convinced that they could, um, reach some kind of ascension state by consuming it. So that's what, um—that's how he was doin'. Which is, ya know, that's good. Good place to be. And this is how I'm going to be playin' this. [sneaking around looking at the examination room] We've got that thing out there? I'm going to be doing run and dives. [looking at X-rays on a lightboard] [one shows a broken and healed tibia] Coral, it says, connected a break. [looks at a scan of Akers' brain; reading] 'Remotely convolved.' [ahahaha, it says 'remotely controlled,' how did I get 'convolved'?] So brain's changed. So the brain tissue has been changed quite a bit. Um. Altered quite a bit. By what happened. [loud popping-coughing from the hallway] Yeah, I know, you're still out there. I don't know which door you're behind. I just wish you could get rid of them, because... If I ever play again, I'll play in Safe Mode. Because I'm not interested in playing this whole where ya at? game. It's boring. Sneaking is fine if you kind of have an overhead view of what's going on. Something to relate to. If you just have this kinda situation, it's not... [leaves the room and opens a door across the hall] So this is the medical laboratory. [reading a sign on the wall] 'Blast door.' That was the infirmary we were in. [enters the medical laboratory] Let's go hide. [gets to a corner; hears a door open. Turns around and the creature is limping through right next to me] Geh-geh-ah-guh! [unintelligible—something about jump scares] [crouching in the corner] Maybe it won't see me. I don't even know what it is. Akers, do you think? [it goes out the other door to the room] Huh. It can open and close doors. That was probably, uh... I think it's probably something that developed from Akers. [looks at a whiteboard that has notes on the gel's effects on Akers] [looks at structural gel growths in glass enclosures] It looks like they started to keep—take samples. Which is a risky thing to do when you're dealing with a biocontaminant like that. So we've been into the infirmary. Been in to see Akers' scans. Haven't been in here yet. [enters a small office with a still-breathing WAU-integrated body in a chair] [a trail of blood leads to the body] So she dragged herself over. [looks at patient notes on Akers on a console] Oh, he somehow took his eyes with structural gel? He's in a coma. [looks at notes on Vanessa Hart] The only one to return. [it looks like she was the only one to return from Akers' attack at Delta?] [looks at notes on Catherine] Huh. Huh! [the notes says she's extremely uncomfortable around people, avoids eye contact, and rarely speaks; a victim, weak in character] Aw-huh, she's not weak in character. [the notes are pretty judgy :| ] [looks at notes on Konrad] [he killed himself with a maser] 'W-Rem,' 'maser.' So another one who killed himself. Chun sounds like she may have been autistic. Which might explain some of her behavior. [the monster limps right by the door] [I hang out crouched by the living dead woman in the chair] And all of these people are kept alive by the structure gel. [leaves the room] So we've been to the infirmary, the samples. We've been to the doctor's office. [in the hallways again] That's the lab. That's—I don't know what that one is. That's new to me. [opens the door and goes in] We need to hide somewhere. So it doesn't know where I am. [sits in a corner] It seems like if I don't look at it, I'm not sure it sees me. [it has no eyes, it can't see me, self] [TRANSCRIPT CONTINUES IN COMMENTS BELOW]
