‘EVERY TIME WE PERFORM IT’S AN OVERACHIEVEMENT’ GFF PRESIDENT ON NATIONAL TEAMS
President of the Guyana Football Federation Wayne Forde said every time a national team performs it’s an overachievement. Speaking at a press conference this week, the football boss argued that the lack of basic infrastructure is a major disadvantage to the national programme, even though the Golden Jaguars were able to historically gain promotion to League A in the Concacaf Nations League late last year. With much talk about Guyana’s prospects of qualifying for a maiden World Cup in 2026, Forde said the country’s chance is as good as any other team in the qualifiers. Ahead of the World Cup qualifier against Panama in early June, the Golden Jaguars will travel to Saudi Arabia for two friendly matches in the first-ever FIFA Series. For Forde and the Federation, these are all building blocks to greater aspirations beyond 2026.
