Hardware Jam with Commodore 64 & original Nintendo controlled via MIDI with Arturia Keystep Pro
Hello and welcome to the latest installment of the Research & Development Series!! This time I'm messing about with my C64 and NES... do they play well together? Let me know in the comments! ⚠ Warning: This Hardware Jam may cause rats to gnaw through your speakers. Watch out!! 😆🐀 This hardware synth jam is using both a Commodore 64 and an original Nintendo controlled via MIDI by the Arturia Keystep Pro!! All four tracks of the KSP are being used to sequence both consoles. Track 1 is the NES noise channel, track 2 is the NES Pulse1 channel, track 3 is the NES Pulse2 channel, and track 4 is the C64!! The Volca Sample 2 provides the drums for this jam and is being synced via MIDI from the KSP. I'm using the Datel MIDI Interface, mini Xpander, and Cynthcart to control the C64 via MIDI. For the NES, I'm using a device called the Famimimidi made by a company called Catskull Electronics. Here is a link to Catskull: https://catskullelectronics.com/ A Behringer Noise Reducer pedal is used with the NES for an extra clean sound. And I'm using a ISP Decimator pedal on the Commodore 64 to also help with getting a clean sound, but that's not all I'm using on the C64.... A company called 8-Bit Classics just made a special audio modification to their "Commodore 64/128/16/+4 8-Pin DIN S-Video & RCA AV Cable" for me at my request!! The mod eliminates most of the high pitch buzzing you get from the C64 SID chip! Especially useful for listening to SID tunes or recording audio with a C64! Combine this cable with a noise reduction pedal and the any noise from the C64 SID chip becomes almost inaudible! 🤯 This extra audio mod has also been added as an option on their website at no extra cost to the cable!!
