Random Jam #17 [retrowave hip-hop w/ Digitakt, ZOIA, Glou-Glou Pralines & Ditto X4]
You can get the multitrack recording of this jam by supporting what I do on Patreon : https://www.patreon.com/aldoistaken You will also get some cool stuff like sample packs, guitar tabs, sneak peeks or technical notes. Love y'all! (Patch note below) Here is a simplified diagram describing how everything is connected : https://drive.google.com/open?id=1t92vJj_ZCsbCAgSAW8XtBIDgw_PdCjh_ I kinda simplified my usual setup for this one. All the sounds are coming from the Digitakt (except the guitar of course). I got inspired by a cool VST I tried, the Arturia CS-80 V. I messed around with it in my DAW and sampled some single notes into the Digitakt. I wanted to play multiple synth sounds at once for the intro so I used the ZOIA to split the Keystep MIDI notes in two. My left hand is playing the pad and my right hand the lead. Those two sounds are then going into the Ditto X4 looper and into the ZOIA which also applies the filter in the intro and at 2:16. I used an ADSR module to automate the filter opening. The drum is pretty standard stuff. The bass is also sampled from the Arturia CS-80 V. At 1:31 I also used one of my all-time favorite sample, a field recording of some howling wolves taken from the Yellowstone National Park audio library : https://www.nps.gov/yell/learn/photosmultimedia/soundlibrary.htm It’s free to use so have fun! On the guitar I used the Glou-Glou Pralines pedal to get that lo-fi ring modulator effect. Once again I used Overbridge to record every sound from the Digitakt separately. The guitar is recorded through my Focusrite Scarlett 2i2. I mixed everything in Logic Pro X and mastered the result with Kramer MPX, Izotope Ozone and L3 Ultramaximizer. There are also a few edits in this one : I added a hi-hat that I missed in the intro and I nudge some guitar bits here and there. Not my best track, not my worst one either I guess! I had something different in mind when I started but oh well. I’m quite happy with the mix so that’s cool.
