Apple Watch X? A LEAP Year for Apple!
Apple Watch Leaps forward 0:00 Intro 0:15 Max Tech Statement on MacBook Pro 2:06 Apple Watch Series X 5:28 Lockdown Mode for iOS16 6:48 Apple's most controversial 2022 Products 7:48 When is Apple M3 coming? There’s little new Apple news beyond the bigger Apple Watch which I broke the news about last week - what there is however is controversy on what it is, why it is, and how much it will be. So lets talk about that. Before we get to that though, we talked about Max Tech last week and how they were testing the MacBook Pro 13 with M2, and their video on the problems with it - they’ve sent us a message with their reasoning, and I quote: Max Tech Hi! Vadim from Max Tech here responding to the whole pre-planned M2 MacBook Pro problems video. Here's an explanation! Before every major Apple release, we create a Google drive document where we brainstorm a bunch of video ideas that we can do with each product, as well as look back at prior video ideas that did well. If they performed well, we repeat them. We've created Top Problems videos for every big Mac/iPad Pro release for the last couple of years. Yes, that includes the M1 Macs, the 14/16" MacBook Pros, the 24" iMac, the M1 iPad Pro, and more. They've performed great long-term for views, and we've actually had a lot of positive feedback because it helps potential buyers make better purchasing decisions based on the findings and recommendations. That's why I said we pre-planned the video since we do it for every single release with success, with positive feedback. People who are covering this are making it seem like I'm biased against Apple and the M2 MacBook Pro and I just want to make it look bad. No, we make this video for every Mac, even the Apple Silicon models we've been pushing more than any other tech channel on YouTube. - As I said right from the start, these guys really do go deep on the testing, and all YouTubers are battling to bring eyes to their channel - I fully see why they framed things the way they did, and why it became controversial when it emerged that they’d planned to make a “problems with” video before the device ever landed. I’m not here to pass any judgement on what they did or whether it’s good or bad, I’ll leave that to you guys in the comments. But what WOULD you want in testing videos of new devices, as the MacBook Air arrives this Friday! Back to the show! So I broke the news on YouTube that Apple is bringing a 1.99” watch size this year, straight from Ross Young - and since then it’s been a huge topic. Mark Gurman says it’s going to be the Apple Watch Pro, Others have speculated its the rugged watch for extreme athletes and the world has said athletes don’t care unless the battery lasts weeks. I think they could all be wrong. I speculated last year that Apple could go to having Apple Watch and Apple Watch Pro, replacing the Edition line. I think we’ve seen what is happening before though. This is the year of Apple Watch 8 remember. When Apple announced iPhone 8, they also announced a huge leap in the iPhone with iPhone X, the first iPhone without a home button, brought FaceID and TrueDepth front cameras. What if this is Apple Watch X? It would make sense, if we get flat sides, it’s the first real visual overhaul of the Apple Watch since it was introduced, perhaps too with a flat display and maybe even a new strap style, as going much bigger with the current attachments could be tricky. New materials have also been bounced around, and also a much higher price point - potentially around $999. Incidentally, that was the iPhone X price at the time too. But this could be for the first year, with the new design language filtering down over time as with the iPhone X leading to the XS & Xr and then the 11 bringing a base model back to more mainstream prices and introducing their Pro line up to differentiate. Understand though this is a theory, based on what Apple has done so far. And it could well start in just a single size, just like iPhone X too. But what do you think? Let me know in the comments, where you can also ask questions like these fine people did. Marcin Kowalczyk @icavedave #icaveanswers will You try Lockdown with the beta just to see how restrictive it is? Joe #iCaveAnswers If you were to use one of these products daily, what would you pick? iPhone SE 3, M2 MacBook Pro, or the Apple Studio Display? Arguably the most controversial Apple products this year. John Malkin #iCaveAnswers Now that M2 MacBook Air is cooked, when will M3 MacBook Air be Oven-Ready? I’m planning to buy in spring.
