Koelman studied the violin with Jan Bor, Herman Krebbers and Jascha Heifetz. From 1996 until 1999 he was the concertmaster of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in Amsterdam. He is Professor of solo and concert violin at the "Zürcher Hochschule der Künste" in Switzerland where he also leads his chamber orchestra ZHdK Strings. He is frequently invited as a jury member at international violin competitions and master classes such as the International Holland Music Sessions and Keshet Eilon in Israel.
