Quake II RTX - 1.5.0 vs. 1.6.0 comparison - 1440p - 5600X , 3070Ti , 32GB RAM
A quick comparison of Quake II RTX version 1.5.0 versus the recently released 1.6.0 patch, using the first of the included demos. The shadowed areas of 1.6.0 are somewhat darker in dimly lit locations, and the overall presentation has changed slightly. This may have been done in part to accommodate the HDR mode, which I cannot test as I don't have an HDR capable display. In SDR mode however, some areas of the game are now very dark. Other visual changes are an alteration of the scaling method for the menu and UI elements, and a return of the red screen effect when being hit from the original Quake II. Performance dropped slightly for me on 1.6.0, using a Ryzen 5600X, RTX 3070 Ti and 32GB of RAM. For both versions resolution was set to 2560x1440 with no scaling at 90 field of view, temporal AA, plus all settings on maximum apart from global illumination set to medium, and a reflection depth of 2. Exposure bias and contrast were both left at their default values of -1.0 and 50% respectively. You can switch back to version 1.5.0 by right clicking on Quake II RTX in your Steam library, going to "properties" then "betas" then selecting v1.5.0 in the drop down menu.
