Albanese government ‘couldn’t explain’ how ‘rushed’ detainee legislation would work
The Albanese Labor government “couldn’t explain” how or when they would use their new detainee legislation, says Shadow Home Affairs Minister James Paterson. “Or who it would apply to,” Mr Paterson said during a media conference on Wednesday. “In light of that, it’s very difficult for the Coalition to support such a rushed passage of this legislation. “We are very concerned about unintended consequences. “Therefore, this morning in the Senate we will be moving to refer this bill to a proper inquiry.”
