Pentecost Message - 'Come Holy Spirit'
Readings: Acts 2:1-21, 1 Corinthians 12:1-13, John 7:37-52 Pentecost - the low-profile Christian Festival. Celebrating the outpouring of the Holy Spirit upon the disciples, affirming the centrality of love as the fruit of receiving the spirit -assurance of being adopted and loved by God, and empowered to love others. The Holy Spirit is also the giver of gifts -abilities through which to enhance the lives of others in love and to build up the community of faith. Australia has been impacted throughout its history by visitations of the Holy Spirit upon numerous communities of its people far more than is credited. It is this phenomenon that goes a long way to explaining the high proportion of church goers in the latter half of the 19th Century.
